About Us

Education Background

At the First Years Academy, we ensure that our students achieve the highest standards of successful learning whether it be in Academics, Fine Arts or our Athletic Programs. As you step into the school premises, you can feel the energy and excitement that can only exist where there is a high degree of motivation and commitment. We offer a modern and secure environment which makes it seem almost an extension of the home where ambience is congenial and there is immense creative freedom for both faculty as well as students.

To achieve our goals, we at First Years Academy are singularly focused on one thing- your child. They bring their passions into the classroom and develop deep, caring relationships that inspire a true love of learning. Our teachers pay close attention to the social, emotional and academic needs of each individual, adapting the curriculum and lessons that fuel the fire more than fill the bucket.

Put simply, a good school knows your child by name, a great school knows your child by heart.

Requests for leave of absence should be kept to the minimum and should be addressed to the Head Teacher. With generous holidays and dates arranged well in advance, it would be appreciated that any requests made for leave of absence for holiday purposes made during term time should be kept to a minimum. Written notes to explain brief absences owing to illness should be addressed to the class teacher.

Children are discouraged from bringing in toys, money or any other valuable items, unless there is a valid reason to do so. The school will not be held responsible for any such items.

A healthy snack and bottle of water can be sent in for snack time. Sweets, chocolates, fizzy drinks and chewing gum will not be allowed. A school canteen will be available next year onwards.

We put a special emphasis on communication between home and school. We will be communicating through: Emails, Facebook and SMS.

The school ID card is required when picking up your child. In a case whereby the person collecting the child has forgotten/lost the ID card, the office must be informed prior.

You are asked not to send children to school with any medicines other than inhalers. ALL other medicines, including pain killers, should be handed in to the school office with instructions about the dose and frequency required. A member of the office staff can administer and record the correct dose when required. Alternatively, you are welcome to come in during the day and administer the medicine yourself.

If your child suffers from asthma we ask that they keep a labelled inhaler in their classroom. Please check your child’s inhaler regularly to avoid office staff having to contact you should they require the inhaler and it has run out.

Nurse Room

The school has a small nurse room, where the children can go to in case of minor injuries such as small cuts and grazes. Parents will be informed in case of any emergency that requires a student to be sent home or to seek medical advice.

Various after school clubs will take place Monday to Thursday, from 1.45pm to 2.30pm. Activity letters will be sent out at the beginning of every term in order for the children to decide which activity they would like to participate in.

The students will be going to ‘Bluefins’ on Mazengo Street, Upanga once a week during the school hours. For further information, you can visit their website: www.bluefinstz.com
